The Importance of Research
Skills
It is essential for all students to understand the research
process. There are over 50 expectations in the Grade 6, 7, 8 Ontario Curriculum
related to research.
Steps in the Research Process
- Understand the question.
- Decide what information
you need to find and how you will organize
it.
- Search for information
and make jot notes. Cite
your sources of information.
- Organize your information
(and notes).
- Write the first draft
of your project from your notes.
- Check that you have answered
the question. Edit your work and find additional information if
necessary. Have someone else read your draft.
- Write a second draft if necessary.
- Decide on how you will present
your project. (You may have done this in step 2).
- Write your final draft.
- Create your presentation.
Add diagrams, maps and pictures.
- Evaluate your own
work (compare with a rubric) - check that your completed project answers
the original question.
