Plagiarism Plagiarism is defined as copying or using someone else's work and claiming is as your own by not giving the original author credit. This is unfair and dishonest and may result in a mark of zero for that assignment. Students should not copy information directly from any source. Always acknowledge the sources used in research (source citation). This includes print materials, magazines, videos, CD ROMs, web sites, or pictures. At The Valleys, pictures are allowed only if they have been properly cited immediately below and have come from CD ROMs or the Internet. Pictures cut from magazines or books are NOT allowed at any time. (In the past, many books from the school library and the public libraries have been damaged by students who have cut out pictures to put in their projects.) To avoid plagiarizing, create and communicate your own meaning from your research and cite your sources of information.
